$SARCO Community March 2023 Update

March Recap of What is Happening in the Sarcophagus World

The month of March is coming to a close and the flurry of activity is consistently growing as the team has had an incredible amount of users to test the dApp. We have broken through some of the original limits we originally scaled to for the testnet, and have expanded the operational rate limits due to the overwhelming support and help from the community! Huge thanks to everyone who has joined, tested, and provided feedback. In addition to the testing, we hosted a couple of DAO votes to continue sustained funding for the subDAOs of Sarcophagus and hosted a call with one of our partners, Inflection. The chat with Inflection and the community was informative, as we talked about how the DAO is looking at moving to close out testnet and likely launch mainnet later in the 1st half of the year. Closing out this article, we wanted to highlight and point out the importance for node operators to maintain their operations with the latest Github pushes and show how it all can be done with 3 lines entered in the CLI for the node.

New Team Members Added!

A massive shoutout to our newest contributors who have elevated themselves to roles in Sarcophagus. Starting off with our newest Mods, @Achiever, @kral, and @socrates. They have been diligently helping to answer questions and keeping the conversations rolling in the chats. Also, we have two new Ambassadors, first is @Megumii who has been tireless working in our international chats and has been a superstar with helping people get their nodes configured for the testnet. Second is @karl.martin who has been elevated to the role of an Ambassador for putting together quality content about the project and helping to work on research and financial reporting. All five members look to be promising contributors to helping make a decentralized, dead man switch a solid on-chain product.

DAO Governance Votes:

The two important governance votes this month are related to two subDAOs which have both been pivotal in supporting operations within the community and furthering growth and development through v2 launch and beyond.

Vote #33: The first DAO Vote is to continue funding operations of the Payroll subDAO. This vote is to fund 120,000 USDC to the payroll subDAO for another quarter. This subDAO has sustained overall community and DAO operations! This vote was passed and executed as of March 18th!

Vote #34: The second DAO vote is to re-fund the Growth subDAO for continued operations through the next quarter with 150,000 SARCO. The GsD has been pivotal in developing outreach and supporting community growth as we ramp up for v2 launch and developments beyond. This vote was passed and executed as of March 18th!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this community decision-making process.

Sarcophagus Testnet Update

The testnet has been live and incredibly active, with the community of users acting in full force to prepare the dApp for its mainnet launch later this year. There have been over [6750 Sarcophagi] created on the Goerli Tomb dApp so far. In order to handle the volume, we are integrating with the Graph Protocol to make operations more efficient and user wait times quicker while running the dApp at high volume.

For the dedicated testers who helped us by using the Sarcophagus Goerli dApp, a retroactive incentive plan was announced. There are two different tiers of incentives based on the level of involvement. All participation in the testing program is subject to DAO incentive voting after the testing round has been completed.

Given the amount of community feedback and the active work being done to improve and update the dApp, the testnet will continue to be live until April 20th. This also extends to the incentive plan, and we’ve opened a new feedback form: form.jotform.com/230598418695168. If you’ve already filled out the form, please do not resubmit.

Community Call with Inflection

The following is a TL;DR of our call with the Inflection team — investors behind and long-term supporters of Sarcophagus:

The incredible volume of recent testing has allowed the team to find improvements that might not have been exposed otherwise, maximizing the future scalability and ease of use on the mainnet Tomb dApp.

The Approximate Mainnet Launch timeline has been set for early H2. This will give the builders ample time to find bugs, improve UX, work with other teams on integrations, and potentially improve market timing for the best mainnet launch.

Front-end updates and improvements will be the last items pushed, as they may be affected by changes and updates made during testing and don’t require any changes to the contracts to update the interface. The node operators on Sarcophagus are given a unique opportunity within the network to choose their operational style.

Operators can minimize fee costs and anonymize identity with a node or operate with a marketing strategy and known identity with likewise premium fees for service. The range of potential node marketing extends beyond fee accrual and into value derived from the reputational gain as well since nodes guard the keys to unknown secrets and have public reputational stats.

Completing the Tomb dApp is a priority, but the main project goal is to build integrations with other dApps and tools that will sustain the primary utilization volume within the Sarcophagus ecosystem. The Sarcophagus protocol is intended to serve as a base-layer tool for use with other tools by builders, and the dApp front-end provides a direct way of experiencing the process and how it works more intimately. The Sarcophagus DAO is currently built on Ethereum, and likewise, the first release of the dApp will be as well.

Mainnet Launch Soon!

Given the progress on the testnet, the mainnet launch of the Tomb dApp is forecasted to take place in early H2. Reminder, the SARCO token is already live on mainnet.

Beyond the mainnet launch, there are a lot of exciting things to look forward to. One of the paramount priorities after mainnet launch is to expand contracts, first to EVM chains/L2s, then to other compatible smart contracting chains as well. This will maximize the potential for use regardless of what ecosystem a user prefers to utilize and allow flexibility for use cases that have differing needs.

Managing a Node

Following off the back of last month’s successful Archaeologist node upgrade, there has been a continued effort to upgrade nodes for the dApp’s testnet. As of March 16th, there was an improvement that uses blocktime as a universal sync for all nodes/users using the dApp. This will resolve discrepancies in communication between nodes and users that caused failed signatures, connections, and even unwraps.

We encourage anyone who is interested to launch a node. The more nodes we have operational, the more efficient and dependable our dApp will be.

Be on the lookout for GitHub updates and/or notifications that node updates are available. Nodes that do not update could potentially not sync with the network and accept and/or complete jobs, which would limit opportunities and could lead to slashing. The main lines of code to get the node updates would be the bash commands:

COMPOSE_PROFILES=service docker compose stop
COMPOSE_PROFILES=service docker compose pull
COMPOSE_PROFILES=service docker compose up -d

These commands in order, stop the node daemon running, pulls the latest updates, and then spin up the daemon.

Partnerships and Integrations

As mainnet looms not in the too far future, the team is looking for other blockchain projects that would be interested in partnering and utilizing the Sarcophagus protocol to strengthen their products. We have had lots of positive discussions with different groups in various sectors of the cryptoverse, like wallet companies, node software distributors, and dApp store integrations. If you work for a project that can leverage the benefits of a dead man switch and/or knows a project, reach out to the team and we can run with that lead!

We Need You!

As the project grows we are looking for people to help step up and contribute to the project via various means. Reach out with skills and/or previous work to anyone in the discord marked with an Ambassador role to help get you lined up. We are especially looking at members who come from international communities to help support the growing influx of new users!
